Quell the team drama in

Run a team-based business for long enough and it's all but inevitable that you'll face:

  • that alpha team member who thinks she knows more about running a small business than you do (lozzzz)

  • that unreliable team member who no shows a shift or shows up 4 minutes late over and over again

  • that uninvested team member who never shows up for the team meetings and then complains you don't communicate enough with her

  • that scheming team member who's plotting to take your client list and start her own business on the back of your marketing dollars

If that's where you're at, it is NOT your fault.

People are just peopling out there.

And even though you're a natural born leader, no one comes out of the womb knowing how to be an effective boss.

But the time is now. You've got WAY too much invested in this small business to let a misaligned team member ruin what you've built.

So here are 3 must-take actions to quell the drama and set sail for more stable, peaceful waters as you scale your business to new heights:

  1. Hire for alignment, not convenience. This is the time to put some serious discipline into your Hiring Process. No more cutting corners, hiring your cousin or your business bestie's VA. It's time to systematize your hiring process from the Help Wanted Ad all three way through to the offer letter so you can better spot the red flags and get A LOT more discerning about who you bring into your business.

  2. When you solve a problem, solve it forever. This is actually advice I got from my Pilates Mentor and former boss, Tom McCook, with whom I worked for a decade. Policies, processes and boundaries are a friend to you, and to your business. Will everyone like it? Of course not. But if you're willing to clarify and communicate your standards and expectations, an amazing thing will happen. More aligned clients and team members will feel magnetically drawn to you, and the misaligned ones will show themselves to the door, which will be SUCH A RELIEF. I know it's scary to speak your boundaries, but you'll get used it and it won't feel so unsettling for your nervous system anymore.

  3. Get used to "firing fast." Don't get me wrong, you're going to be smart about this, documenting infractions and having human conversations with the mediocre or misaligned team members who are slowing your growth and cluttering up your mental space. Let's hope you can get back on the same page. But if you're going to become the leader of a 7-Figure Dream Team, you're going to get much more strategic about holding the outliers accountable and addressing their behavior instead of letting it fester. Hopefully it won't come to you firing them. But if it does, you'll be prepared and you'll do it as quickly and painlessly as possible (cause I'm going to teach you how.)

This is exactly the work we're going to do together inside the EMBODIED BOSS Leadership Academy.
